I don't think that is the issue. They are even higher in Toronto. I believe Stamkos is feeling pressure from the players association to get the highest contract possible so contracts for all players will go up.

Stammer would make more in endorsements than salary, with the Leafs. |

Yeah, I admit that's a whole different thing I'm not looking at putting into stories right now because I have a headache doing regular bills and don't want to put misinformation out there.

You know, that's how I feel about a lot of these situations. Taxes might be higher in different states and stuff, but there's so many other ways for superstars to make money, and they're straight-up foolish if they don't do it in my opinion. |

bingo.
no doubt in my mind Stamkos will join the Leafs - makes sense from a financial, personal and hockey point of view. |

Assuming he can play hockey for 8 years without blood clots again how much endorsements do you get if after 3 years you can never play hockey again ? |

You can also factor in where the Canadian dollar is and that players are paid in USD.
Today - For reference, $1M USD = $1.282M CAD |

Well, if it came to that point, nabbing the most money would be even more important, as you'd be on LTIR through the life of that contract. |

12M? Whoa. That is literally 16% of your entire cap space...in one player.
Also - want to make sure I point out one thing. In your article you pointed out that Detroit would only be in on Stamkos if they move Pavel's contract - which isn't true. The Wings could still make an offer to Stamkos in the 10M AAV mark - even if they don't move Pavel's contract. Tough - but possible. |

Yeah, I hear 'ya, but from what's been said/written/heard, it seems like it's somewhat dependent on moving that contract, which will be possible for a few teams, you'd think, right? |

8.5 won't get it done.
If Lightning haven't signed him to this point...I think he is definately moving on.
Best guess...the Leafs for 10.5 or 11 per....on a 8 year deal.
But, thinking at least 4-5 teams will dangle 10million at him....8.5 is an insult really.... |

Yeah, I am feeling confident that Holland will be able to move it. I get the impression he is playing coy with some of his comments about 'not being optimistic' about moving it just to get other GMs to start thinking...
Although, I did hear that the asking price might be Svechnikov or Athanasiou...which are both no-nos for now. |

where did 8.5 come from when nothing has leaked from yzerman or the stamkos camp? so I find that offer to be untrue. |

But $8.5M was never going to get it done.
Yzerman has mismanaged this resigning.
If he had offered over $9M last June, I doubt the team would be in this position. I hope Yzerman has learned that he needs to offer Hedman the same money as Subban. |
